Sebastian Kristof

An analytical approach. A specific focus.

I combine medical training, behavioral science, software and systems thinking, and advanced hypnosis training. My style is analytical and focused on what keeps a particular reaction in place.

I do not push advice or offer motivational cheerleading. I help you use your own knowledge and resources, without requiring you to explain more than is necessary for the work.

Education: M.D.; psychiatry training. Research: Yale · UC San Diego. Clinical research: WCG. Certified hypnotherapist.

Professional background

I received my medical education in Kyiv. After working as a counselor at Yale Psychiatric Hospital, I held postdoctoral positions in medical informatics at Yale and bioinformatics at UC San Diego. Later roles included medical writing at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre and clinical research at WCG.

Part of my career has been in software engineering, including at QlikTech. That experience trained me to look at connections between problems and find the constraint that keeps familiar solutions from working.

Hypnotherapy training

My training includes Master Hypnotherapist certification, hypnoanalysis, parts work, emotional release work, and Karl Smith’s rapid induction techniques. We discuss the task before choosing a method.

Why I do this work

I am interested in the gap between what a person understands and what happens in an actual situation. Someone can think clearly about a relationship and still return to the same argument, or see the next step and avoid it for months. I want to understand what keeps that gap in place and help the person have more freedom in their decisions.

Scope of practice

My medical and research background informs my understanding. The services on this site are part of a nonmedical private practice. I do not prescribe medication or replace your treating clinician.
